The formula 1 season came to a dramatic conclusion in Brazil on Sunday with the world champion decided on the last lap of the last race.

Although I’ve been following F1 for 14 years, I can’t remember any race like it. There was so much tension it was almost impossible to watch the last few laps.

My top drives of the 2008 season are;

Lewis Hamilton in Monte Carlo
Hamilton recovered from hitting the crash barriers to take a brilliant victory in a chaotic race at Monaco.

Felippe Massa in Hungary
Aggressive overtaking moves at the start of the race on Kovalainen and Hamiton put Massa in front. Massa led comfortably until his engine blew up three laps before the end.

Vetel in Italy
Starting from pole position, Sebastian Vettel took victory in the wet at Monza and became the youngest ever formula 1 race winner.

Fernando Alonso in Japan
The championship contenders tangled while Alonso went on to take a dominant second win in a row proving that Renault were back as a force in formula 1.

Lewis Hamilton in Britain
A fantastic display of car control in the wet by Hamilton, and some excellent strategy by the team to keep Lewis on the right tyres at the right time as the conditions changed at Silverstone. Barrichello came in a creditable third, Honda’s best result in a dismal season.

Felippe Massa in Brazil
After a superb pole position for his home race, Massa dominated the race in changing conditions and under great pressure to take victory in front of his Brazillian fans.

The formula 1 season comes to an end this weekend in Brazil. The championship is going down to the wire again this year with Massa and Hamilton both still in contention. But with a 7 point lead, the championship is really Hamiltons to loose, although he went into the final race last year with a clear advantage only to see it disappear with a technical problem.

Both of the Championship leaders have had mixed seasons with Hamilton putting in an amazing drive in the wet at Silverstone but has also made some mistakes. Running into Kimi in the pits at Canada and fluffing starts at Hungary and Japan.

Massa was dominant in Turkey and Valencia and made a fantastic start in Budapest only to loose out on a certain win with three laps to go, when the engine in his ferrari blew up. The championship was lost for him by the team during the botched pit stop during F1’s first night race in Singapore.

Hamilton has had some bad luck too, with some dubious penalties in Japan and France and having his brilliant win in Spa taken away by the stewards.

I hope it’s an exiting race and, despite what Eddie Jordan says, I wouldn’t expect and dirty tactics from Massa, his collison with Hamilton in Japan looked like an honest driving error to me.

I predict that Massa will win the race which will make amends for him having to gift the victory to Kimi last year. Hamilton will be the new world champion on sunday, even in Massa wins he only has to come fith.

Last night I went to Salisbury with a two of friends to see Bellowhead and had a really great night out. I first saw them at Stokes Bay festival along with The Levellers and Alabama 3. Thought they were great at the festival and was very much looking forward to seeing them again.

They’re an eleven piece band, playing traditional english dance music, and have just released a new album called Matachin. I’ve been listening to lots of folk recently but Bellowhead’s style of folk music is a bit different. There is an incredible amount of energy in their live performance and they draw on a wide range of styles making for a unique sound. It’s music thats really easy to dance to and there was some bizarre moves, both on stage and in the audience.

The atmosphere at Salisbury was fantastic, it’s quite a small venue, mainly seated but with some standing room at the front and is a really good place to see folk, I went there a couple of months ago to see Seth Lakeman.

I’ve been listening to quite a lot of folk over the past couple of years after going to see the Levellers at Portsmouth Guildhall. There coming to Southampton in December and I hope to catch them again there. I’m also off to Newcastle in a few weeks to See the Alabama 3 for some “good old country, acid house music.”
